Snäckan (Campsite no. 87)

Description

The shelter is located high up on northern Krokholmen, an island located in Östra Silen close to the DANO 87. The view over the lake is magnificent. Together with soft slabs and gnarled pines, the windbreak embraces a place to gather by the fire during the evening and sleep overnight.

The “Snäckan” is connected to the region’s handicraft tradition and the boatyards along the Dalsland canal. Like a boat’s boarding, large oak planks have been heated by water vapor and based into a curved shape. Together, the plank forms a strong wooden dome that spans a small but magnificent room – a pantheon between the pines. Wood crafts and furniture joinery appear in detail and both new and older knowledge has been used.
